Explore a scenic, vehicle-free area. May be added to any itinerary from Lake Manyara or Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 1:
Transfer by road to the Malanja depression. Guides, cook and three
Maasai with their donkeys will await your arrival. The road traces
the Ngorongoro Crater. Follow the crater through open woodland
and acacia forests heading for the Laiania River at the foot of
Olmoti Crater. The day will offer spectacular views into the crater
and towards the Serengeti. In the afternoon, arrive at our new
campsite located where the river enters the Ngorongoro Crater,
far from the tourist routes. Dinner and overnight at Laiania Camp.
Day 2:
After breakfast, continue along the crater rim traversing the
Olmoti slopes. In the afternoon, the trail leaves the rainforest.
Your next campsite is on the Munge Riverbank. Dinner and overnight
at Munge River Camp.
Day 3:
The trail now cuts through open woodlands inhabited by local Maasai.
By late morning, reach the road winding out of the Ngorongoro
towards Empakai Crater. Your LandRover will be waiting with fresh
fruit and refreshments. In the afternoon, depart for Kirurumu
Tented Lodge for dinner and overnight or continue with another
safari.
